3 Atlanta Braves who won’t be on the roster by June 1
2. Dylan Dodd won’t be on the Braves roster by June 1
With Kyle Wright leaving his May 3 start against the Marlins early after re-aggravating the shoulder injury that caused him to have a delay in spring training, the Braves’ pitching depth with definitely be tested. Having said that, despite Dylan Dodd getting the nod on Thursday in the series finale against Miami, it feels like he won’t be staying long in the majors.
Prior to the May 4 start, Dodd had made two starts for the Braves to mixed results. He was dynamite early in the year against the Cardinals in his MLB debut, lasting 5.0 innings and allowing just one run on six hits and no walks. However, he got roughed up badly in his next start against the Padres, allowing seven earned runs over 4.1 innings on 10 hits, including two long balls.
Dodd also gave up a first-inning two-run home run to former Brave Jorge Soler in his third start on Thursday.
There’s a good chance that, as the wear and tear of the season goes on, Atlanta will have Dodd on the roster and making spot starts throughout the year. But as soon as Michael Soroka is healthy and ready to return — a time that we seem to be pretty quickly approaching — it feels like he’ll get the opportunity to be the fifth man in the rotation.
That will likely push Dodd out of the spot and, with Soroka well down the path back to the big leagues after missing multiple seasons due to injury, that will push the rookie down to Triple-A once again.
