Yankees could make another big youth call-up
Yankees play-by-play commentator Michael Kay recently said that someone, “high ranking” in the Yankees organization told him that it wouldn’t be a surprise for Jasson Dominguez to make his big-league debut this year.
Already this season, the Yankees have embraced the youth movement, bringing up Anthony Volpe as the starting shortstop and using Oswald Peraza as a third baseman and utility infielder after he made his debut last year.
Now, Dominguez could be the next chapter in the youth book.
“Desperate times call for desperate measures, and they don’t have a left fielder,” Kay said. Well, technically, they do, but the options aren’t great.
Aaron Hicks has been horrible offensively and has offered not enough to make up for his woes on the defensive end. Jake Bauers started off hot in his first inning as a left fielder with an incredible grab, but stumbled Friday night on what should have been an easy fly ball.
The Yankees might be rolling this whisper out to light a fire under the guys already on the roster, but the worst-case scenario here is that it motivates someone to play better. If not, the Yankees get to bring up exciting new talent.
Ready or not, Yankees farm system, you might get your name called.
