Georgia football: Dominick Blaylock transfers in-state
Former Georgia Bulldogs wide receiver Dominick Blaylock has transferred to Georgia Tech, opting to remain close to home. Blaylock was a former top target of the Bulldogs and Kirby Smart, and had plenty of potential after a decent freshman season.
However, Blaylock had rotten injury luck, tearing his ACL on two occasions. He was surpassed by George Pickens on the depth chart and never really recovered. Add in the COVID-19 pandemic, when all of college sports was uprooted, and this is the first real opportunity Blaylock has to made an impact on the collegiate level. Perhaps, with a decent season at Tech, he could even continue his career at the professional level.
Blaylock deserves this opportunity, which is why most UGA fans have wished him well despite leaving for an in-state rival. Tech isn’t much of a threat to the Dawgs, being in a different conference altogether.
“Dom never complains,” Georgia coach Kirby Smart said of Blaylock last spring. “He works and handles the cards he’s been dealt very well, and he’s had some really tough resiliency. He has overcome it. I’m really proud of Dom.”
There will always be a place for Blaylock in Athens. Unfortunately, sometimes the match just doesn’t work out. In this case it had little to do with Blaylock’s mentality or on-field performance.
