Ohio State football needs to keep an eye on five-star wide receiver committ Jeremiah Smith as he gets set for a visit to Georgia.

Ohio State is an early contender for the top recruiting class in the 2024 cycle, currently sitting No. 2 behind Michigan in the 247 Sports composite team rankings.

Five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is weighing heavily in those rankings as the No. 2 player in the entire class and the obvious gem in Ohio State’s haul.

So losing him is not an option. But it’s something the Buckeyes need to guard against, especially with an upcoming visit to a national title rival scheduled.

Ohio State football rumors: Jeremiah Smith to visit Georgia

Smith has locked in a visit to Georgia on the weekend of May 19, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.

That’s one of three official visits the receiver apparently has scheduled, including trips to Florida and Ohio State in June.

The trip to Gainesville feels like less of a threat to the Buckeyes than the one to Georgia, who can try to entice the 6-foot-3, 198-pound receiver to join a title-winning dynasty a bit closer to home in South Florida.

The advantage for Ohio State is getting the last of the three visits. It’ll be a chance for the Buckeyes to overshadow the earlier impressions Smith got from his other destinations.

Of course, the biggest edge for the Buckeyes is having Smith’s commitment in the first place. He made his pledge back in December when he could have just continued the recruiting process with things wide open. He picked Ohio State, Ryan Day and primary recruiter Bria Hartline need to continue to remind him why that was to fend off Georgia’s advances.
