MLB Rumors: Tigers should trade Eduardo Rodriguez while he’s hot

As impressive as the Detroit Tigers have been against non-AL East teams this season, the current iteration of this squad is not ready to make the jump to American League contender. Scott Harris has a plan, and it’s already paying dividends. Detroit’s scouting department did a tremendous job combing through the Phillies and Braves organizations in offseason trades. They can do the same in any deal for Eduardo Rodriguez.

FanSided’s Rogelio Castillo noted earlier this week that as enticing as it is to keep Rodriguez, he’s likely to leave in free agency:

"“To be blunt, Detroit is not yet equipped to contend and needs more assets. Lefty Tarik Skubal, who performed solidly before a last-season injury, is expected to resume bullpen work soon. Depending on his progress, there’s no urgency for Detroit to deal Rodriguez.”"

The Cardinals or Braves are potential trade options, as both need pitching help ASAP. Atlanta lost both Max Fried and Kyle Wright until July at the earliest. St. Louis has an eternal need for starting pitching, and if they can turn things around after a dreadful start to the season, they could be the more attractive farm system to shop from.

Rodriguez is one of the hottest pitchers in all of baseball. There’s always a chance he comes back down to earth. If Harris is smart, which he is, he’ll at least gauge some interest now.
