Georgia football rumors: Raiola flipping another 5-star, transfer from Vols, losing out to Prime
Georgia football rumors: Dylan Raiola could help flip 5-star WR Jeremiah Smith
Dylan Raiola is coming to Athens. This isn’t breaking news as the No. 1 overall player and, obviously, the No. 1 quarterback in the 2024 college football recruiting cycle decommitted from Ohio State in the winter and decided on Georgia over Nebraska and USC this week. It’s a statement moment from Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs that they aren’t going anywhere.
It could also be just the first 5-star recruit that decommits from Ohio State to end up with the Dawgs — and Raiola could have a hand in that.
5-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, the No. 2 overall player in the country for the 2024 cycle, is currently committed to Ohio State. However, he has a visit scheduled with Georgia for the upcoming May 19-21 weekend and one scheduled for Florida in a couple weeks as well. 247Sports recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong, however, called the Bulldogs the biggest threat to flip Smith from the Buckeyes.
"“Georgia is the school I’m watching in the Jeremiah Smith sweepstakes after Ohio State,” Wiltfong said, via 247Sports. “With what Georgia has done on the field with two straight national championships. The Bulldogs are also the big leader for Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 prospect in the country. This puts Georgia as the biggest threat to flip Jeremiah Smith from Ohio State. That’s going to be a great weekend in Athens. Georgia is a team to watch in this recruitment moving forward. It is going to be a massive recruiting weekend for the Bulldogs as they make a run at 247Sports’ No. 1 recruiting class of all time.”"
Wiltfong did note that flipping a receiver from Brian Hartline and Ohio State is extremely difficult, but Georgia is in the unique position to do that, especially with Smith having already scheduled a visit to Athens and the 5-star wideout reacting to Raiola’s commitment to the Bulldogs.
It’s far from set in stone, but Kirby Smart could very well have a legitimate chance at pairing the top quarterback and top receiver in the 2024 recruiting cycle together on the field at Sanford Stadium.
