NFL Rumors: DeAndre Hopkins and Patriots could be surprise match of the offseason
The New England Patriots are the cockroaches of the D-Hop sweepstakes. They just won’t go away.
Bill Belichick’s team has long been linked to the Hopkins rumors ever since Belichick was spotted chatting it up with the star receiver during a regular season game in 2022. Sources around the league have stated that the Pats are “more likely” to pursue Hopkins now that he’s released since the main thing standing in the way before was Hopkins’ undesirable salary dump.
Albert Breer gave his two cents on the situation and believes the Patriots could be a serious option this offseason:
"I think now that the price has dropped and a draft pick won’t be involved, the Patriots are worth considering. Despite perception out there, my sense is that O’Brien would be plenty on board with, not against, signing Hopkins (and Hopkins had his most productive years playing for O’Brien in Houston)."
New England’s offensive coordinator, Bill O’Brien, worked with Hopkins for six seasons back in Houston, and in five of those seasons Hopkins recorded 1,000-plus receiving yard campaigns.
When it comes to great coaching and management, one could easily see why Hopkins would be attracted to Bill Belichick’s side, it’s just that the Pats are a little lacking in the quarterback department.
Last month, Hopkins revealed the top quarterbacks he’d like to work with and didn’t have Mac Jones on the list. Can’t really blame the guy for that.
