Red Sox rumors: Lefty James Paxton could end up in a new uniform by the trade deadline

One of the biggest additions that a team can make at the trade deadline is a veteran starting pitcher that has a solid track record. That can be found in the Red Sox lefty James Paxton.

Paxton was seen as a solid piece of the Red Sox roster and rotation, but their season hasn’t panned out quite the way they wanted. There is still a ton of factors that could determine whether or not the franchise would move the pitcher before the deadline, but based on the state of their team, signs are beginning to point toward the Red Sox moving him.

Paxton is under contract for the rest of the season and is in the middle of one of his better seasons in recent memory — especially because he’s actually been on the mound. He has been a solid pitcher for his entire career yet has dealt with injury concerns as of late. He appears to be healthy now, despite a minor knee injury, and in the best pitching shape that we’ve seen him in since his first stint with the Mariners.

If the Red Sox opt to look toward 2024 or 2025 for a World Series, they could bolster their farm system quite a bit by moving James Paxton to a team that needs a starting pitcher. Potential suitors would be the Dodgers, Reds, Rangers, and Blue Jays among others.
