MLB Rumors: Shohei Ohtani isn’t only asset Angels could trade

All the trade chatter out of Los Angeles Angels camp has surrounded the potential earth-shaking move of Shohei Ohtani, who is set to hit free agency after this season.

But what about the other Angels assets on the table?

The NY Post’s Jon Heyman named Hunter Renfroe and Matt Moore as two other trade candidates heading into August.

Outfielder Hunter Renfroe will also be a free agent after the 2023 season, and he’s been slashing .243/.302/..439 with an OPS of .741. He’s bounced around on as many as four teams in the last seven years, and given that he and his wife recently announced the birth of their son, he may be looking for stability now and for the future. As much as he may want to stay in L.A., the Angels may be open to listening to offers and send him packing in August.

As for pitcher Matt Moore, the lefty got off the injured list earlier this month and has admittedly struggled with inconsistencies throughout his career. Prior to his injury in 2023, Moore recorded a 1.44 ERA in 25 innings and showed off his reliable arm in several lights-out games. Should the Angels seriously consider selling at the deadline, Moore would pose as an enticing candidate behind Renfroe and superstar Ohtani.
