England will be seeking to conclude Group D play unbeaten at the 2023 Women’s World Cup when they encounter China on Tuesday, August 1 at Hindmarsh Stadium in southern Australia. Here’s how to watch.

After a narrow triumph over a tough Haiti side in the second group stage match, Shui Qingxia’s China side has a chance to make it into the knockout round.

Heading into this match, the Chinese sit on three points while England currently holds the lead in Group D with six. Both the Asian outfit and Denmark have the same amount of points and goal differential after two matches. It is all about taking care of your own business. Haiti takes on Pernille Harder and the Danish at the same time. If the Chinese can hold the defending European champions to a draw, that could be enough to send them through.

Though Sarina Wiegman’s team is heavily favored, the Steel Roses are unbeaten in their last four encounters with the Lionesses including three victories. In addition to that, China has yet to lose its final group stage match at a World Cup, coming out on top in five out of the last seven.

Racing Louisville’s Wang Shuang, who netted the winner against Haiti will be the key to success for China. On the other side, England has yet to concede a goal behind a backline led by Chelsea star central defender Millie Bright. Wiegman’s decision to start Lauren James on the left flank against Denmark paid off big time, and if the Chinese seek to have any chance, it starts with keeping her in check.

The Asian outfit has never failed to earn a place out of the group stages of a Women’s World Cup in each tournament it qualified for. The Lionesses have reached the knockout stages in each out of the last four World Cups, finishing in the top-four in the last two.

The nine-time AFC Women’s Asian Cup winners, a team that beat one of the tournament’s standouts on penalties last year, Japan is more capable of shocking the football world.
