Ask the Oddsmakers: Where is The Public Putting Their Money At?
Every week, the battle of the public bettor vs. the sportsbook is a fun one. Public bettors are always trying to find “locks” for the week or amazing value in order to make some money. The “lock of the week” is normally where most bettors feel is the easiest decision, which can sometimes come back to haunt them.
Including the Cincinnati Bengals-Jacksonville Jaguars game that took place on Thursday night, there are five games that opened with a spread of at least 7 points. Of those games, the Kansas City Chiefs-Philadelphia Eagles game is getting a lot of action -- with most of the public backing the Chiefs to cover.
The Chiefs are 6.5-point favorites (-115) on the road in Philadelphia, but the public trusts in Kansas City to get the job done.
Which Week 5 Games Have The Most Bets And Highest Handles?
You can expect to look up every week and see the Chiefs as the favorite going into a game. Yet, just how much does the public believe in them?
We spoke with WynnBET trader Motoi Pearson to give some insight as an oddsmaker.
“What comes to my attention immediately is how ridiculous the ticket count discrepancy is in the Chiefs (-7) & Eagles game (90% ticket count on Chiefs) and Titans (-7) & Jets contest (90% ticket on Titans),” Pearson told BetSided.
“With the massive ticket count we’ve seen for the Chiefs (-7) against the Eagles, it clearly doesn’t take too long for the public to decide against the Eagles’ after their performance against the Cowboys.”
The Jets Are Being Faded Every Week
The Jets are 0-3 this season and have failed to cover in each one of their games. As much as the public likes the Chiefs, they equally dislike the Jets.
“It’s not much of an overreaction per se, but it looks like we’ll see some major ticket counts against the Jets for the rest of the season,” Pearson continued.
New York is currently a 6.5-point underdog to the Tennessee Titans and +245 on the moneyline.
