The Chiefs Defense Is Worse Than You Think

The Kansas City Chiefs have been bad on defense this season, but they may be even worse than you think.

The best offense in NFL history was the 2000 St. Louis Rams, as they put up 7.0 yards per play for the entire season. 

Through the first five weeks of the 2021 season, the Kansas City Chiefs defense is allowing 7.1 yards per play. That’s right, every play combined against the Chiefs this year would be better than the best offense in NFL history. 

That’s some scary stuff for Chiefs fans. 

BetSided’s Iain MacMillan explained why the Chiefs are the best over bet in the entire NFL right now, and the main reason is because of the team’s putrid defense. 

Kansas City is just 2-3 on the season, and it’s allowed 29 or more points in every game this season. While Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said that this hasn't affected the offense, it’s hard to believe him considering he’s already thrown six interceptions this season after throwing just six all of last year. 

“Not at all,” Mahomes said. “We try to score every single time we touch the football. That’s how it’s been my entire career here, and that was the precedent that was set before I even started here. That’s kind of how I have my mindset going into every single game is that, when we get an opportunity to go out there and have success and be successful, we have to capitalize on that. It has nothing to do with whatever is happening on the other side of the ball. It’s just our job as an offense on this team.”

While Mahomes may be protecting his defense, there’s no doubt that the Chiefs are suffering because of it.
