The Italians could be without goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, one of the best in the world, after he twisted his ankle in practice.

“He twisted his ankle very lightly,” head coach Cesare Prandelli said, via ESPN FC. “It was a very, very light ankle twist. He is receiving therapy at the moment, but it is nothing serious.”

Both teams will had to deal with terrible pitch conditions as well as humidity in Manaus.

“We’ve heard that a bit of the grass has been burnt due to the heat,” Demetrio Albertini, the head of the Italian delegation in Brazil, told reporters.

“But we’re not worried about the state of the pitch — we’ll be training on it as normal. In any case, no matter what happens, we will not be changing any of our original plans.”
