Today’s USMNT news includes Gregg Berhalter being officially announced as head coach by U.S Soccer. Elsewhere, Tyler Adams has been linked with Aston Villa and Ricardo Pepi could be on his way to PSV Eindhoven.

USMNT news: Gregg Berhalter announced as head coach

Gregg Berhalter has been revealed as the new head coach of the USMNT. In a statement on U.S. Soccer, Berhalter said “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to build on our achievements at the World Cup and to contribute to this exciting time for soccer in our country. The entire group of players and staff have worked incredibly hard to establish our identity on and off the field. We look forward to continuing our journey together to make our fans and our nation proud.”

His appointment is not one that has overwhelmingly enthused supporters. Much of this criticism is down to what happened with Gio Reyna during and after the World Cup. Berhalter has also been denounced for leaving Zack Steffen and Ricardo Pepi out of the roster for Qatar.

When asked about these players in a U.S. Soccer press conference Berhalter said, “I have not spoken with them. Like the Gio case, there are a number of individuals that you want to speak with.” Amending the relationships will be key to if Berhalter will be a success in his second stint in charge of the Stars and Stripes.

USMNT news: Tyler Adams to Aston Villa

Tyler Adams has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs since Leeds United’s relegation from the division. According to MLS Transfers, “Aston Villa is leading the race for Tyler Adams. Talks with Leeds are expected to start next week. Other interested parties from around England expected but Tyler is not a first choice for many clubs and would have to wait until later in summer for other signings to domino.”

A move Villa would be great for the USMNT midfielder. Under Unai Emery, they finished 7th in the league last season and qualified for the Europa Conference League. Emery did a remarkable job to turn around their fortunes after he replaced Steven Gerrard. The Spanish coach now has a full season to work with the side and bolstering their midfield with Adams would be a good start to the summer transfer window.

USMNT news: Ricardo Pepi to PSV Eindhoven

Ricardo Pepi has been linked with both PSV Eindhoven and Ajax recently. However, it appears that moving to PSV is more likely. Fabrizio Romano has revealed that “Negotiations between PSV & Augsburg are ongoing after the player’s decision to give priority to PSV as the next destination.”

The forward did very well for FC Groningen last season where he scored 12 Eredivisie goals and was voted the club’s player of the year. Staying in the Netherlands and playing for one of their top sides will give him the opportunity to develop further, challenge for trophies and compete in European soccer.
