Ann Coulter: Interest in the World Cup is ‘sign of the nation’s moral decay’

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter never misses a chance to stir the pot or get quoted saying something absolutely ludicrous. Her latest infraction came in a blog post on her website yesterday titled “America’s Favorite National Pastime: Hating Soccer.” In the post, Coulter details why she believes Soccer is destroying the United States.

More from World Cup

Unfortunately, this is not a joke, but an actual letter written by Coulter herself. Here is just a sample of what Coulter had to say regarding the World Cup:

"I’ve held off on writing about soccer for a decade — or about the length of the average soccer game — so as not to offend anyone. But enough is enough. Any growing interest in soccer can only be a sign of the nation’s moral decay."

Yes, Ann Coulter truly believes that watching the World Cup to cheer on the United States national team is a sign of “the nation’s moral decay”. Let’s continue with a few more quotes:

"Do they even have MVPs in soccer? Everyone just runs up and down the field and, every once in a while, a ball accidentally goes in. That’s when we’re supposed to go wild. I’m already asleep. You can’t use your hands in soccer. (Thus eliminating the danger of having to catch a fly ball.) What sets man apart from the lesser beasts, besides a soul, is that we have opposable thumbs. Our hands can hold things. Here’s a great idea: Let’s create a game where you’re not allowed to use them! It’s foreign. In fact, that’s the precise reason the Times is constantly hectoring Americans to love soccer. One group of sports fans with whom soccer is not “catching on” at all, is African-Americans. They remain distinctly unimpressed by the fact that the French like it."

Those are just a few of the unbelievable quotes from Coulter’s pathetic and ignorant blog post. Of course, this won’t change the fact that America is continually showing a growing interest in Soccer. In fact, yesterday’s USA vs Germany match dominated Google trends, and watched by hundreds of thousands of die-hard fans.
