The Miami Heat, understandably, are doing everything they can to put themselves in position to appease LeBron James so they can re-sign their megastar. James, for what it’s worth, hasn’t given any indication about what his plans are in free agency though he hasn’t set up any meetings with opposing teams just yet.

More from LeBron James

Could that be a sign that he’s giving the Miami Heat first priority? It’s possible, but rumors have swirled that he’s not into taking much (if any) of a discount this offseason, be it for the Heat or anybody else and according to John Canzano the former MVP only wants to sign a one or two year deal with the Heat.

It’s a smart move from LeBron James as such a deal would allow him to see how the health of Dwayne Wade holds up and if the Miami Heat can continue their dominance.

As we’ve seen with previous ‘dynasties’, they only last so long, no matter how great the team and organization so there’s little reason for James to commit for the long haul if he can put himself in position to get out in a timely matter if need be.

Simply put, if LeBron James wants only a one or two year deal, he’s going to get it. The Miami Heat will be forced into offering him such if he suggests he’s willing to sign with another team for a short period of time, so it’s very possible James may only be playing for a franchise for one or two more seasons before we go through this again.
