No, Kendrick Perkins of the Oklahoma City Thunder doesn’t have the most expensive contract in the NBA. Hell, he’s not even making over $10 million dollars this season. So it’s hard to suggest he’s the most overpaid player in the NBA, or is it?

Despite not making even half of what a player like Amare Stoudemire of the New York Knicks collects, Perkins has become somewhat of a problem for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Sure, he’s still valuable on the defensive side of the ball, but offensively he’s nothing but a black hole.

He isn’t a guy that can score nor is he a guy that is very effective on the glass for a guy of his size. Given that, when comparing his production level with his salary, Sean Deveny of Sporting News believes it’s Perkins who is the most overpaid player in the NBA.

"Of players who had at least 300 offensive possessions to their credit last year, Kendrick Perkins had the second-worst efficiency rating in the NBA, averaging 0. 670 points per possession (only Boston rookie Phil Pressey was worse at 0.590). The Thunder will transition from Perkins to Steven Adams, probably over the course of this year, and that works out well for OKC — Perkins’ deal is up after this season."

The Oklahoma City Thunder have previously been rumored to have attempted trades involving Kendrick Perkins, though have struggled to find a taker. Given that, it seems like Deveny has a point.
