After the Cincinnati Bengals chose to keep 25-year-old defensive tackle Devon Still on the practice squad so they he could pay for his 4-year-old daughter, Leah’s pediatric cancer treatments, the Bengals announced they would sell Still’s jersey and profits would go to cancer research. Since then, almost 10,000 Still jerseys have sold.

The Bengals have tracked orders from all 50 states as well as Canada, the United Kingdom and Australia.

The widespread support will generate more than $1 million for the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. The Bengals will absorb the cost of the first 10,000 jerseys, roughly $500,000, to allow for the full sale price to go to research.

“We applaud Devon for his openness in sharing his daughter’s challenging story nationwide through media and social media,”Bengals executive vice-president Katie Blackburn said in a press release.

“We also applaud the response of our fans and many others to the jersey sales. The welfare of Devon and Leah are foremost in our minds, but we are proud and excited to be able to be a part of something that can help advance the cause of fighting childhood cancer.”

Still gave this heart warming pep talk to his daughter just before her procedure to attempt to remove the cancer on Sept. 25.

After the procedure was over, Still received some great news that, “After a 5hr 50min surgery the surgeon was able to remove ALL of her tumor and all of her lymph nodes and her right adrenal gland where it all started.”

A very heartwarming story related to the NFL that has been banged up by much deserved bad press over the last month.
