Although it’s been said that Rajon Rondo essentially killed any trade value he had after his hand injury, might it be possible that Rondo’s broken hand could expedite his trade out of Beantown?

More from Boston Celtics

With Rondo expected to miss the first month or so of the regular season rookie Marcus Smart is expected to handle the point guard duties. Smart was already deemed to be the Celtics’ point guard of the future but now he’s been thrust into the role.

What if he’s to succeed and play well? Could that give the Boston Celtics more leverage in their dealings with Rajon Rondo and those attempting to trade for him?

"If Smart is able to show that he is a long-term solution at point guard for the Celtics, it may give them some added leverage regarding Rondo, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer."

The idea of trading Rajon Rondo doesn’t just include the upcoming season as the Boston Celtics could also attempt to sign-and-trade him at season end, so keep that in mind. Fact of the matter is there aren’t going to be many willing to give up much value for a perceived malcontent with a recent ACL injury, bad back and broken hand who is on a one-year contract. But if Smart can handle the point guard duty and Boston feels comfortable moving forward with him next year, they certainly have reason to move on from Rajon Rondo.
