Nobody really knows if the Boston Celtics were (or are) looking to trade Rajon Rondo this season, though after recently breaking his hand it appears as if Rondo’s trade value is null.

More from Boston Celtics

In fact, Kirk Minihane and Gary Tanguay of WEEI.com say that Rondo’s most recent hand injury has all but destroyed any trade value that he had which wasn’t all that impressive to begin with. A free agent at season end, Rondo was already viewed as potential rental player. Now he’s a rental player with a bad bad, knee and broken hand who is rumored to have a rather poor locker room attitude.

"But the Celtics could have least been respectable, and if not that, perhaps they could have traded Rondo for an impact player whom the team could control for the next few years. You can forget about that.“They’re not gonna be able to trade this guy,” says Tanguay.Minihane agrees, saying Rondo’s trade value is “shot”."

It seems as if the Boston Celtics, unhappy with Rajon Rondo’s trade value before the broken hand played a game of chicken. They were likely hoping that Rondo would remain healthy and show that he was a weapon and they’d be able to cash in on such. Now after the broken hand it’s just another issue which may prevent a trade all together even when Rajon Rondo returns to health.

Certainly hard to begrudge the Boston Celtics’ front office for taking that stance, though, it seems to have backfired for now unfortunately.
