David Price is your 2014 MLB strikeout kings after he had seven strikeouts through six innings of Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Twins, pushing him one past Indians ace Corey Kluber for the season’s crown.

Twins right fielder Oswaldo Arcia was Price’s 270th strikeout victim of the season. That’s a career-high for Price, who has split this season between the Rays and Tigers.

This also is the first time Price will lead MLB in strikeouts, and he’s the fifth Tiger to do it, joining Justin Verlander, Mickey Lolich, Virgil Trucks and Hal Newhouser.

Verlander led the majors in strikeouts three times, in 2009, 2011 and 2012.

Victor Martinez came into Sunday’s game with a chance to win the American League Batting Title, it would be the fouth straight for the Tigers, but he fell just short.

Martinez made outs his first two times up Sunday to fall to .336, five points by Astros second baseman Jose Altuve, who was 2-for-3 with a double through the fifth inning of his game.

Cabrera won the batting title each of the three previous years.

The Tigers are trying to finish their game against Minnesota with a win and the American League Central Division title. If they get the win, it’ll be their fourth straight title. They’ll play the Baltimore Orioles in the ALDS if everything else stays the same.
