Giancarlo Stanton will be a very rich man following this season. That is for certain. Who he will play for following next year remains a mystery. The Miami Marlins are very likely to retain the slugger throughout the 2015 season.

On September 11, Stanton’s season was concluded early as he took a pitch to the face in Milwaukee. Though he has missed the majority of the final month of the season, he remains a viable MVP candidate in the National League.

Stanton’s current totals for the season look as follows; 37 home runs (leads NL), 105 runs batted in, and a line of .288/.395/.555. His slugging percentage is also tops in the NL.

Should Clayton Kershaw not walk away with the hardware, many feel the award is his to lose.

With salary arbitration, Stanton received $6.5 million in this first year of eligibility.

However, the Marlins team mission mission for the future will likely determined the course of future actions. Should the organization be committed to rebuilding past next season, extending Stanton’s current deal seems to be an obvious goal.

In the past owner Jeffrey Loria has crafted a reputation of fire-selling his most expensive assets at unexpected times. Fans will remember that he virtually gutted his team following the franchise’s wins in the 2003 World Series and sold the Montreal Expos to Major League Baseball in 2002.
