The Milwaukee Brewers collapsed in disappointing fashion in the second half of the 2014 season. After spending much of the season looking like division favorites in the National League Central, they missed the playoffs completely.

Among the factors for their struggles was the health of star outfielder Ryan Braun, who dealt with a nagging thumb injury all season. The injury apparently continued to get worse and the season wore on. To correct that issue for next season, Braun will undergo surgery to repair what has been deemed a nerve issue in his right thumb.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the following:

"Ryan Braun is going to get his thumb fixed……Now, however, the Brewers and Braun believe they have found a minimally invasive surgical procedure that could fix the problem. On Thursday morning, Braun will go to the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles to have a cryotherapy procedure performed by specialist Vernon Williams on the thumb."

For his part, Braun says that he plans to look more like his old self after having this procedure done:

"“My expectation moving forward is to be the same player I’ve been over the first seven years of my career and not the way I’ve played this year,” Braun said in an interview with the Journal Sentinel. “It’s 100% possible, I have no doubt.”"

In 134 games this season, Braun batted .268/.325/.455 with 19 home runs and 81 RBI.
