Not only did Chandler Parsons cash in this offseason, he also spent a good amount of his downtime training in the weight room.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Wanting to add muscle to his frame, the Dallas Mavericks forward has now emerged as a threat to play some backup power forward this season though head coach Rick Carlisle is still a bit skeptical of Chandler Parsons weight gain.

Asked about Parsons ability to play the four, Carlisle suggested the added bulk is in the eye of the beholder.

“One man’s bulking up is another man’s not quite in shape yet. But he’s a really good player, he had a very good morning this morning. He can do a lot of things. He’s the kind of guy that would fit in on any roster in this league or in any other league, so he’s going to be a really important guy for us.”

You have to assume Rick Carlisle was simply have a little bit of fun on behalf of the Dallas Mavericks’ big free agent signing as you can’t really begrudge a player for getting themselves in better shape, though maybe was trying to deflate the head of Chandler Parsons just a bit.

It’s expected that Parsons will see significant minutes for the Mavs this season as not only will he be Dallas’ starting small forward but will likely handle backup duties at power forward occasionally as well.
