After Mike Williams’ agent requested a trade from the Buffalo Bills, the New York Giants have emerged as possible candidates for his services.

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Mike Williams likely wants out of town after the team benched him prior to their Week 6 match against the New England Patriots. While few took that request seriously, it seems that circumstances could force one reluctant partner to enter the dance floor and at least gauge what it might take to get Williams.

The New York Daily News reports that a team source said they will likely at least explore it.’ The Giants could be interested in acquiring Williams after the team lost Victor Cruz to a season-ending injury.

Coach Tom Coughlin was of course political as ever in addressing the rumors, but he could also just be playing it like a straight shooter. “We will start with the ingredients that we have,” Coughlin said per the Daily News. He added, “I am sure all of that research will be done” on outside options. So basically, they might and they might not want Mike Williams.

Complicating matters in this potential trade would be Buffalo’s asking price. Bills GM Doug Whaley responded to the Mike Williams request by noting that, “If he gets me compensation worthy of a No. 1 receiver, which he claimed he is, then we would entertain it.”

The problem there is that the Bills definitely didn’t pay a No. 1 receiver price to get Williams and they could hardly expect as much in return. The team gave a sixth-round pick to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Williams, which is about as good as they can expect for a guy who has eight receptions in five games played this season.

For now, expect the Giants to be content with Reuben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr. as team’s starting wideouts until those two prove they can’t get it done. By then, the trade deadline will have likely passed and there will be precious little either team can do until the offseason.
