Whether it should be attributed to a bad day for the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense or a good day by the Indianapolis Colts’ defense, the Bengals could not get anything going.
It took Andy Dalton until well into the fourth quarter to even eclipse 100 yards passing. All told he went 18-for-38 for 126 yards. That’s 3.3 yards-per-completion, boys and girls. Giovani Bernard did not do much better on the ground, rushing for just 17 yards on seven carries. Some of these offensive struggles for the Bengals could result from A.J. Green‘s absence, but that excuse only goes so far.
The Colts’ defense set the tone early in this one, making it clear that it was going to be a long day for Dalton and the Bengals’ offense.
In the meantime, Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis offense just kept humming along. Luck played another clean game, throwing for 344 yards and two touchdowns. Trent Richardson, Ahmad Bradshaw, and Daniel Herron combined for 166 yards on the ground. It was a complete and impressive effort from the Colts, and quite frankly the game wasn’t as close as the score would indicate.
The Colts have now won five straight games after starting the season 0-2. They head to Pittsburgh next week for a match-up with the Steelers. The Bengals have now lost two straight and are staring down a key divisional game against the Baltimore Ravens next weekend.
