As a big man in the NBA, it’s somewhat of a job requirement to ‘bang’ in the paint. But Miami Heat Chris Bosh isn’t one to conform to such requirements and recently told John Schuhmann that he longer is interested in posting up.

More from Miami Heat

“I don’t bang with anybody anymore,” he said. “It’s a tired thing for me. It’s not my strength and I understand that. So, be smart and play within the team offense, but be aggressive at the same time.”

It’s a little odd to see such candid honesty from a professional athlete instead of the standard media-friendly response, though, the timing is certainly strange for Bosh who is set to become a free agent if he so inclines.

Granted, it’s extremely doubtful that Bosh will leave the Miami Heat (who will also face contractual decisions from LeBron James and Dwyane Wade) so Bosh’s honesty isn’t likely to come back and bite him in the pocket.

As for Bosh’s reasoning? He says trying to post up simply takes too much effort which results in tiring him out much quicker. He’d prefer to conserve energy and play within the offense, which he feels benefits the team more than his questionable post game.

Bosh also stated an irritation with more defenders attacking him when in the post.

“And for some odd reason, I always get double-teamed still,” he said. “I don’t understand it. And that’s the reason I really stopped, because every time I go down there, I got double-teams. I was like, ‘For what?’ They won’t double-team LeBron, but they’ll double-team me.”
