NFL Hot Seat Rankings: Top 6 head coaches most likely to be fired in 2014
Rex Ryan, New York Jets
Ryan signed a contract extension with the Jets earlier this year through at least the 2016 season, but in the three seasons since taking the Jets to back-to-back AFC Championship Games, Ryan is 22-26 and has zero winning records in that time.
The Jets have had one of the better defensive teams under his watch, but the offense has been his Achilles heel with mark Sanchez a big culprit for the team’s failures from 2011-2012 and rookie quarterback Geno Smith in 2013.
Ryan has the backing of his players and the front office after signing the extension, so he is not on the hottest of seats as the season begins, but things can change quickly in a New York minute if Smith should flop in his second-year under center.
With Eric Decker and Chris Johnson signed to free agent deals this offseason, Ryan has no excuses to get the Jets in position as one of the AFC’s top eight offenses.
If the offense can’t hold its end of the bargain, the defensive-minded coach could begin to feel the heat again.
