NFL Hot Seat Rankings: Top 6 head coaches most likely to be fired in 2014
Doug Marrone, Buffalo Bills
Marrone is coming off a 6-10 season in his first year with the Bills after a four-year coaching stretch with the Syracuse Orange that saw him go 25-25 with an 11-17 mark in the Big East.
The Bills mortgaged the future by trading up from No. 9 to No. 4 and giving up next year’s first round pick to draft former Clemson receiver Sammy Watkins, so the pressure is on Marrone to win now or risk losing his job.
Buffalo has their sights set on a wild card berth this season with the addition of Watkins and Mike Williams to give second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel help in the passing game and give balance to Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller in the run game.
The defense has been hit by injury to Kiko Alonso and run-ins with the law involving Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, so Marrone faces an uphill battle to end the NFL’s longest playoff drought.
Having said that, with new ownership on the horizon and new owners almost always bringing in a new front office who brings in a new coach, Marrone must do so if he wants to stay on beyond this season.
