While not everything has worked out the way 2011 NBA MVP Derrick Rose envisioned following that season, no one can question his commitment to the Chicago Bulls. After Tuesday it’s nearly impossible to question his commitment to the youth of the city of Chicago either.

More from Chicago Bulls

According to a report by ESPN Chicago, Rose has chosen to invest $1 million dollars in a Chicago non-profit called After School Matters.

He chose this as a way to show his commitment to those who have been behind him and supported him throughout the last few years of difficulties on the court.

“To have a strong community of people who believe in your potential can make all the difference in the world,” said Rose, an NBA MVP and three-time All-Star. “So many people have invested in me and I want to do the same for Chicago’s teens.”

The After School Matters program is nearly entirely populated by minority teens who are living at or below the poverty line and looks to offer innovative after school programs in sports as well as many academic pursuits as well. Those include  Science, Sports, Tech, Words and the nationally recognized Gallery programs.

As for a return on the court, Rose’s recent play with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup indicates that he may finally be ready to be a big contributor for the Bulls this season. Since tearing his ACL in 2012 postseason, Rose has played in just 10 games for the Bulls.
