Life after the NFL can be tough for a lot of players. This is especially true for those who never quite made it in the league to begin with. Even worse is when those players are highly touted, yet seem disappoint to unimaginable lengths. This is the case for many unfortunate souls, perhaps most notably Ryan Leaf.
Leaf, seen here in the pair of before and after mugshots, was the second overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft. You know, the one that famously featured that guy with virtually every important passing record in the book, Peyton Manning. Heading into draft day, Leaf was neck and neck with Manning for No. 1 selection status.
Several years after his playing days ended unceremoniously, Leaf has struggled to stay on the right side of the law. His list of illegal transgressions features several counts of burglary and controlled substance charges. According to this latest photo, even his weight seems to be an issue these days; very upsetting for a guy once renowned for his stature at the quarterback position.
Maybe one day things will get easier for Leaf. He is out of prison as of yesterday, albeit still under police supervision. One thing to note is that he would make one heck of a motivational speaker on the warnings of hubris. Then again, what do you expect when you no-show a meeting with the potential number one picking team’s owner?
