Marc Trestman – Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Coordinator

Just one year ago, Marc Trestman was the toast of the coaching profession in some circles, even to the point where he garnered buzz as the “quarterback whisperer”. Things changed in a hurry.

Trestman was ousted from the Chicago Bears after an ugly, 5-11 campaign, but for the most part, the offense was not the culprit, and that is where Trestman’s pedigree comes from as a professional coach. His work with Jay Cutler has come under fire, but it is easy to forget that Trestman guided Josh McCown (who was systematically terrible in 2014) to a winning record in 2013, and there is no question in my mind that the 58-year-old would be a successful offensive coordinator in the NFL.

Why Jacksonville? The Jaguars a) have an opening after parting ways with their incumbent this week, and b) have a project quarterback to develop in Blake Bortles. Bortles is certainly a work in progress, but Trestman would seemingly be overqualified for the job, and the Jaguars are highly invested in the success of their young signal-caller.

This could be changed to “offensive coordinator somewhere” without missing a beat, but the Jacksonville fit appears sound.
