11. Monster.com “When I Grow Up”

Monster.com jumped on the American way of life in their 1999 Super Bowl ad. It was a harsh, not-so-funny look at what Corporate America had done to the work force.

In the commercial, kids say what they want to be when they grow up, but instead of actually talking about their dreams, the kids say things they want to do at unimportant jobs like filing, being a “Yes” Man or “Yes” Woman, and having a life in middle management.

There’s something very powerful about kids saying those things rather than adults. It’s a very powerful message that I think everyone can relate to. The world isn’t like what you picture it is as a kid.

The commercial was a real eye-opener for most people in America, but it did exactly what Monster.com wanted to do, which was give people an opportunity to achieve their dreams by finding a career that was right for them.

For those unfamiliar, Monster is a job site that helps companies find the right people for the job and helps people find the right job for them.

“When I Grow Up” isn’t one of the top-ten Super Bowl commercials of all-time, but it’s probably one of the most powerful ads of all-time.
