Sometimes people believe that just because a certain player has been close in proximity to a program for their whole life, it means that they will automatically commit to that school.

  • Malik Monk, a native of Bentonville, Ark., has lived in the home state of the Arkansas Razorbacks for a while now and it’s almost assumed that he’s a big-time Arkansas-lean. That may be the case since he looks to be comfortable with the program, but I am the kind of guy who likes to pick the unpopular choice.

John Calipari visited Monk not too long ago, April 21 to be exact, and since then, the five-star shooting guard’s stock has risen considerably.

Obviously it’s not just because Calipari showed interest, but because he absolutely dominated the recent Nike Global Challenge, even being named the MVP of the tournament.

Although he doesn’t have the typical size, 6-foot-3, of a Kentucky shooting guard, Monk is the type of elite talent that just can’t be passed up by Calipari. Right now, the only commitment for the 2016 class is a four-star power forward, not at all conflicting with Monk’s position.

If he wants a better shot at going pro, he will need to choose Kentucky over Arkansas.

    Prediction: Kentucky Wildcats
