3. Dennis Smith, PG (Greenville, NC)

In my opinion, as well as 247Sports‘ who ranked him the No. 1 point guard in the 2016 class, Dennis Smith is the best at his position in this year’s talented group. Although guys like De’Aaron Fox and Lonzo Ball give him a run for his money, Smith is an all-around star.

  • The top point guard in the nation, standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 180 pounds, has decent size and still has time to fill out a bit more and become a serious force at his position.

N.C. State is the clear favorite to land the floor leader as he released a top-six list on July 17 with the Wolfpack seemingly leading the way. He is from North Carolina, so that gives Duke and North Carolina a slight advantage just based on history, but the Wolfpack are working hard on him.

Kentucky recently offered, to no one’s surprise, and they could end up making a push for him before it’s all said and done.

Smith would come in right away and start for whichever team he chooses. The five-star point is a solid passer and can play inside and out.

The July 14 offer from Kentucky has to be annoying for schools like N.C. State, though, as that offer will definitely make him think things over a bit more.

    Prediction: N.C. State Wolfpack
