Victor Martinez-DH-Detroit Tigers: The Tigers were one of the big sellers at the deadline, but they still have a formidable offense as they look to earn a four-game split of their series in Baltimore. They’ll take on Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez today who V-Mart is 9-27 (.333) against in his career with a double, four home runs, and 11 RBI. Martinez has scuffled a bit lately, but this matchup is a great one to target for today.

6. Carlos Gonzalez-OF-Colorado Rockies: CarGo didn’t go anywhere this trade deadline although there were plenty of rumors around the Rockies slugger. Since he’s still with the Rockies, today he’ll face St. Louis as the Cardinals give the ball to Jaime Garcia in the finale of their four-game set at Busch Stadium. Gonzalez has hit Garcia well in the past and enters play today 6-12 (.500) against him with a pair of doubles, four RBI, and a home run.

5. Seth Smith-OF-Seattle Mariners: Another hitter batting .500 against his opponent today is Seth Smith who is 7-14 (.500) against Twins’ starter Mike Pelfrey. Smith has two doubles, a triple, and a home run in their previous meetings and will look to continue that success today since he usually draws the start against righties like Pelfrey.

4. Todd Frazier-3B-Cincinnati Reds: As the Reds wrap up their three-game set with Pittsburgh, they’ll face Pirates starter Charlie Morton this afternoon at Great American Ballpark. It’s definitely a matchup that favors Frazier since he is 7-15 (.467) against Morton in his career with two doubles, a triple, a pair of home runs, and six RBI.
