Stevie Johnson-San Diego Chargers

The late round WR going outside the top 50 who has the most upside and could be the steal of your fantasy football draft is Stevie Johnson.  Johnson has been extremely impressive throughout the preseason and looks like he’ll have plenty of targets coming his way from Philip Rivers.

Johnson had a quiet year last year in San Francisco after being almost-elite in Buffalo despite questionable quarterback play.  With Philip Rivers getting him the ball, Johnson could quickly emerge as a top-20 WR once again in the Chargers pass-heavy scheme.

In Preseason Week 3, Johnson had four catches for 63 yards against the vaunted Seahawks defense and seemed to be Rivers’ go-to option on third down. While Keenan Allen is still the Chargers top receiving threat, look for Johnson to emerge this season as a strong fantasy option as well.

Johnson looks primed to get off to a hot start especially while Antonio Gates is suspended for the first four weeks of the season.  In PPR leagues, Johnson should be a WR3 fairly easily. Remember Eddie Royal had plenty of success (62 catches, 778 yards, seven touchdowns) as the Chargers slot option last year before signing with the Bears this offseason.  Johnson should more than match those numbers, and with Gates out, you’ll be glad he’s on your roster as soon as the season gets underway.
