5. Seattle Seahawks

Considering recent history, there’s no reason to believe that the San Francisco 49ers would stand a chance against the Seattle Seahawks, especially considering that Blaine Gabbert is going to continue as the starting quarterback for the 49ers. In fairness, San Francisco isn’t a good football team and I don’t think there’s much of a debate to be had about that. However, I also happen to feel the same about Seattle.

The Seahawks lost a tough one in Week 10, but needed a furious comeback to even be in the game after falling behind by a wide margin in the first half. Quite frankly, this just hasn’t been the same Seahawks team that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing in recent seasons. Their defense has seemed more prone to lapses this year than in previous seasons and their offense looks like an absolute train wreck that can’t seem to find an identity.

The notion of a team having an identity is why I’m leaning towards the Niners pulling a massive upset on the road against an NFC West foe, even if they are 13.5-point underdogs in a traditionally hostile environment. With Gabbert at quarterback and running back Carlos Hyde likely to be out again in Week 11, this team actually has more of an identity than they would with Colin Kaepernick. They are going to run safe plays and not ask Gabbert to do too much. It might seem a bit far-fetched considering how bad things could go with San Francisco, but I think they shock the NFC West on Sunday with a win in Seattle.
