Alex Gordon: 3 Best Fantasy Free Agent Landing Spots
By Brad Kelly
Alex Gordon has had quite the renaissance of a career over the last five seasons as he was one of the few big leaguers who transitioned from looking like a bust prospect into one of the best all-around outfielders in the game.
Kansas City stuck with him with during his rough first seasons and his eventual move from third base into the outfield, which ultimately proved to save his career. Now that he has been a cornerstone for the Royals and on the heels of leading them to their 2015 World Series win, will he resign this offseason?
Here are three of the best potential fantasy landing spots for Gordon in 2016.

Kansas City Royals
There is no need to overthink this one, Gordon has found a home with the Royals and I would deem him the face of the franchise. Last season he posted a, .271/13 HR/48 RBI/.809 OPS line, which does not seem as a stud fantasy season but he did miss a big chunk of 2015 with a groin injury. While Gordon is not a prime fantasy contributor, he is certainly one of the most solid and consistent mid round outfielder selections.
While we do not get points for defensive metrics, which would rank Gordon as one of the best in the league, he does fall into the category of a better real life player than fantasy wise. He should be able to get back to the 20 homer mark whether in Kansas City or not, so don’t overlook him after one injury slowed season.
Baltimore Orioles
Outside of Adam Jones and the mid-season addition of Gerardo Parra, the O’s had a fantasy black hole in the corner outfield spots in 2015. They went through the likes of Travis Snider, Nolan Reimold, and Ryan Flaherty in the outfield at some points last season, so to say they need an improvement is an understatement. Gordon would not only stabilize left field, he would also see an offensive boost in Baltimore.
Gordon has never played his home games in a hitter’s friendly ballpark, so the move to Camden would be a nice change of scenery. The O’s could lose Chris Davis to free agency but, they should still sport a decent lineup to provide Gordon with the counting stats help that he needs to increase his fantasy value. If he finds himself in Baltimore, bump him up your rankings.
Boston Red Sox
On the surface this move doesn’t look plausible with the glut of outfielders that the Red Sox have but I am no sold on them keeping all of those guys heading into 2016 as they will probably deal them for a starting pitcher. Like in Baltimore, moving to Fenway would surely do wonders for his offensive production, and he would find himself in the middle of a decent lineup.

For what it’s worth, Gordon has a .375 AVG/2 HR over his twenty one games played in Boston, so it’s a small sample of the type offensive uptick he could see there over a full season. If he lands in Boston, move him up your rankings and bank on him eclipsing his 23 season high homer total.
