32. Geno Smith, New York Jets

The Jets currently face a mess of a quarterback situation, and really need to make a trade or free agent signing happen before the season. If training camp were to start today, the Jets would likely have a quarterback competition between Smith and Bryce Petty, a 2015 fourth-round pick who has yet to appear in a game.

Fitzpatrick came in prior to the 2015 season on a one-year deal and did a nice job, nearly leading the Jets to an elusive postseason appearance. Unfortunately for the Jets, Fitzpatrick remains unsigned, and the two sides still have a long ways to go in negotiations. While Fitzpatrick may be asking for too much money, adding him would move the Jets closer to the middle of this list rather than dead last.

As it stands, Smith would rank as the worst starter in the NFL if he were to be pressed into that role in 2016. Smith owns a career TD:INT ratio of 27:35 in 31 career appearances, and missed most of last year due to a broken jaw that caused his benching in favor of Fitzpatrick.

If Fitzpatrick doesn’t return, it’s hard to see the Jets improving their quarterback situation much. Smith is still just 25 years old, but he has yet to show any ability to play at the NFL level.

The Jets could take a quarterback at No. 20 overall, most likely Paxton Lynch, but no prospects beyond Goff and Wentz look like they’ll be ready to contribute this year.
