Where do all 32 starting NFL quarterbacks rank heading into draft season?

As the most difficult position to fill in sports, NFL quarterbacks are rarely found in free agency. Teams typically find their franchise quarterbacks through the draft, and then do everything in their power to keep starting signal callers from hitting the open market.

However, the frenetic 2016 NFL free agency period brought plenty of activity among quarterbacks. As many as four quarterbacks could be starters with new teams next season, while a number of free agent backups will compete for roster spots elsewhere.

Brock Osweiler provided one of the major shocks of the offseason by leaving the champion Denver Broncos for the Houston Texans, where he will get the opportunity to start. Meanwhile, free agents like Robert Griffin III and Ryan Fitzpatrick are still unsigned, while a Colin Kaepernick trade from the San Francisco 49ers could change the situation for a couple of teams.

With free agency winding down, teams can now assess where their starting quarterbacks stand in relation to the rest of the NFL, and whether an upgrade in the draft might be necessary. Jared Goff and Carson Wentz are both expected to be drafted very highly, but the quarterback class looks weak overall, particularly when compared to both last and next year’s.

The Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots continue to have the top starters in the NFL with Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady respectively, while Cam Newton of the Carolina Panthers made a huge leap in 2015 to the elite tier. Other teams like Denver and the New York Jets have unstable quarterback situations with some of the worst starters in the league. making an upgrade necessary.
