4. QB Jay Cutler, Chicago Bears

The question marks surrounding the 10-year signal-caller Jay Cutler have to do with his weapons and not his skills. A year ago, the much-maligned quarterback made some big-time strides as a field general for a team hoping to once again challenge for a division title and/or a playoff berth. After hosting the NFC title game in 2010, the Bears have not been back to the postseason since.

A year ago, with a big assist from then-offensive coordinator Adam Gase (now the head coach of the Miami Dolphins), the strong-armed quarterback emerged as a leader – as evidenced in fourth-quarter comebacks wins over the Oakland Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers – the last two games on the road. Add in a victory at Lambeau Field and Cutler made some strides after a horrible start.

One year after throwing 28 touchdown passes while committing a league-high 24 turnovers, Cutler saw his production drop as far as scores (21) but also coughed up the football only 16 times in 15 contests. Yes, he will no longer have targets such as running back Matt Forte and tight end Martellus Bennet. But deep threats such as Alshon Jeffery and Kevin White certainly play to the veteran hurler’s talents.

It is still amazing that in 10 years in the league Cutler has yet to throw at least 30 touchdown passes in any season. He may not be a year-long option for an owner, but he has a chance to get his yards and some fantasy points this week despite the fact that this is a road game for the improved Bears.
