Heisman Performance of the Week: Clemson Tigers QB Deshaun Watson

The 2016 Heisman Trophy may still go to the sensational sophomore quarterback of the Louisville Cardinals Lamar Jackson, but perhaps Clemson Tigers junior signal caller Deshaun Watson could crash Jackson’s Heisman party?

Watson is finally starting to play at the level he did a year ago. Admittedly, this year’s Clemson team isn’t as skilled as last year’s, at least on defense. However, Watson is proving every Saturday why he is a future franchise quarterback that will be drafted in the Top 10 of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Watson completed 23 of 34 passes for 288 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception. On the ground, Watson could have 17 carries for 85 yards and two touchdowns. He was the reason that Clemson defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies in the 2016 ACC Championship Game at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, 42-35.

Clemson will face the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl in the first round of the 2017 College Football Playoff. Watson and the Tigers need to beat a tough Ohio State team to have a shot at playing in another National Championship Game, presumably against Alabama.
