Martez Ivey

OT, Florida

The Carolina Panther had one of the more interesting first round picks on Thursday night, selecting star running back Christian McCaffrey out of Stanford. The plan for McCaffrey is to be a security blanket for Cam Newton, who has been asked to do way too much during his time with the team. If McCaffrey can be a solid player out of the backfield, the Panthers are going to be tough on offense next season.

With their second round pick, the Panthers added another offensive weapon, selecting Ohio State’s everything wide receiver/running back Curtis Samuel. Carolina has some solid players in place on the offensive side of the ball, and in the first round next April, they should look to grab their future at left tackle. That player should be Martez Ivey, who projects to be a first round talent at that position in next year’s draft.

Ivey played on the right side of the line last season, but will make the move back to the left in 2017. He is going to be a leader for a Florida Gators team that was destroyed in the SEC title game by the Alabama Crimson Tide last season. The Panthers have good, young talent on the offensive side of the ball, and adding a quality offensive tackle would be the smart choice for the team this late in the first round.
