Round 3 – Pick 78

Deon Cain, WR, Clemson

The Chiefs have to find a compliment on the outside to Tyreek Hill. Some in Kansas City might be screaming about the return of Chris Conley or the potential re-signing of Albert Wilson, but neither are a sure thing. Behind them, the depth is lacking with Jehu Chesson, Demarcus Robinson and a hole where De’Anthony Thomas once was.

Cain was terrific last year for the Clemson Tigers, catching 58 passes for a team-high 734 yards and six touchdowns. At 6-foot-1 and 190, Cain has solid size and excellent speed, making him a perfect compliment to Hill. Kansas City already has Travis Kelce and a good pass-catching back in Kareem Hunt to work the short and intermediate zones. Cain would be another deep threat for Mahomes, who has one of the league’s strongest arms.

The former Clemson star has been consistent, catching 38 passes for 724 yards and nine touchdowns in its national championship season of 2016. If there was any knock on him last year, it’s the poor showings against Louisville and Florida State, the two best opponents that Clemson saw in the ACC. However, Cain was good against Alabama in the national semifinal, going for six receptions and 75 yards.
