If the Cleveland Browns decide to pick Josh Allen with the first overall pick, the New York Giants cannot bypass Sam Darnold. Sure, tons of teams will reach out to the Giants to take the No. 2 overall selection, but they need to stand their ground, and take Eli Manning’s successor. If Darnold is not available, they can look to do other things, but he is way too good a prospect to pass up with the second overall pick.

Darnold is the most NFL-ready quarterback in this draft class, and going No. 2 to the Giants would be the best-case scenario for him. He would get a year, or maybe even two, behind a player who led the organization to two Super Bowl titles. In addition, the organization could be in that rare situation where they do not have a lag time between having a franchise quarterback under center.

The 2017 season was quite a disappointment for the Giants, but they got rid of their issues, and go into the draft picking higher than anyone could have expected. They need to capitalize here, because they never want to be picking this high again. Darnold make sense if he is available, though if he is not, expect the Giants to be working the phones on draft night.
