Bruins vs. Maple Leafs Game 7: Full highlights, final score and more
The Boston Bruins hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight in the final game of the first round of the NHL Playoffs. Here are the highlights and everything you need to know from the game.
The game opened at a blistering pace, with both goaltenders looking beatable early. The Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs traded a pair of goals early from the veteran Patrick Marleau (two), Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen respectively. Patrice Bergeron would break the tie in the final minutes to make it 3-2 for Boston through one.
In the first, Morgan Rielly took a Zdeno Chara slapshot to the face, which was a scary moment. He left the ice under his own will but failed to return in the first period, but was on the bench to start the second with some fresh stitches on his lip. Hockey guy.
It didn’t take long for Travis Dermott to put a puck past Tuukka Rask to score his first-ever playoff goal and tie this one up at three a piece. Minutes later, the Bruins failed to control a bouncing puck on a power play and Kasperi Kapanen scored on a breakaway. 4-3 Toronto.
Adam McQuaid saved what was likely going to be another Leafs goal when he sacrificed his body to the boards just past the midway point of the second. He looked okay as he skated off, but clearly shaken up. The second period ended with the Leafs holding a 4-3 lead.
The third period opened with a Torey Krug laser that tied it up at 4-4. Arguably the hardest working player on the ice tonight was Jake DeBrusk. He scored his second goal of the night early in the third to put the Bruins up 5-4. When the game was looking like it was turning tides to the Leafs, David Pastrnak scored to put the B’s up 6-4.
Brad Marchand iced this one for the Bruins, adding an empty netter for a 7-4 final score. The Boston Bruins are moving on!
Three Stars
3. Torey Krug
Krug had the all-important game-tying goal to open the third. This fired up the crowd and the team and led to more offense from the Bruins. Krug was great all night.
2. Patrice Bergeron
Great players come up big when it matters. Bergeron had a goal and two assists tonight in the most important game of the Bruins season. He was his usual great self in the face-off circle as well, winning 64% of his draws. Bergeron will be the most important player if the Bruins make a run at the Cup this year. The Selke stand-out plays both ends of the ice beautifully, as he did tonight.
1. Jake DeBrusk
Jake DeBrusk was the best player on the ice tonight. He gave 100 percent on every shift and he was rewarded for it, with two goals — one of which iced the game for Boston. He’s the first Bruins rookie to score two goals in a Game 7 since Brad Marchand in 2011. He’s been amazing in this series and looks to continue this against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
