Rangers Adrian Beltre Placed on 10-Day DL: Fantasy impact
By Bill Pivetz
The Rangers lose another infielder with Adrian Beltre on the DL. What should fantasy owners do to replace Beltre in their lineup?
The Texas Rangers keep losing players to the DL. First, Rougned Odor with his hamstring strain. Next, Elvis Andrus is missing a lot of time due to a right elbow fracture. The recent injury came on Wednesday as the Rangers placed third baseman Adrian Beltre on the DL with a strained left hamstring. How should fantasy owners react?
Beltre is 39 years old and has been free of injury for most of his career, until last season. He played just 94 games last year, the first time he played in less than 100 games, as he started the season on the DL with a calf injury and missed time with another hamstring strain.
Beltre was hitting the ball well, .310 with a home run and eight RBIs. It will be tough to replace his power and leadership in the Rangers lineup. Fantasy owners will also look to replace his upside from someone off the waiver wire.

Beltre is expected to miss more than the minimum 10 days. The Star-Telegram reported that Beltre could miss only two to three weeks. That will put his return date around the second week of May. He’ll still be able to play the remaining 110-plus games.
The Rangers called up utility fielder Ryan Rua. The team still has Joey Gallo to man first base, prospect Ronald Guzman can get more at-bats and Jurickson Profar is still hanging around. Gallo is likely owned in your league. I’d take a risk with Guzman in AL-only leagues.
If you are looking for replacements outside of the Rangers organization, there are some players still available. Jeimer Candelario of Detroit is owned in just 27.0 percent of ESPN leagues. Ryan Flaherty is still the Braves third baseman, that is until Jose Bautista is called up. This may be your last shot to juice that orange.
Beltre, when healthy, is still one of the top third basemen in fantasy baseball. However, with the hamstring issues to end last year and now early this season, he could be on the decline. Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back and crushes another 30 home runs.
