Cardinals at Padres

Cardinals Probable Starter – Michael Wacha, RHP

3.35 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 7.41 K/9

Vs LHH – .225 average, .258 wOBA and 38.9 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .274 average, .365 wOBA and 44.1 hard contact rate

There might be players who chase the matchup against the Padres and their 27.1 strikeout rate. I have a feeling that I might not be one of them tonight because Wacha is so strikingly mediocre across the board. The strikeout rate isn’t great and he almost never goes past six innings. With limited strikeout upside and limited innings upside, I don’t think I can pay over $8,000 for him on almost any slate. I also won’t really be chasing the Padres bats either so this side of the game isn’t for me.

Padres Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Christian Villanueva

Padres Probable Starter – Tyson Ross, RHP

3.67 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 9.94 K/9

Vs LHH – .284 average, .344 wOBA and 43.6 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .155 average, .221 wOBA and 40.4 hard contact rate

Ross is one of my favorite pitchers on the slate tonight. His record looks a little uneven these past four starts but one was in Coors Field and one he got victimized by Bryce Harper. It’s kind of hard to hold either start against him and the other two have been at least 46 points. The Cardinals are about mid-pack in strikeouts against righties and they don’t have lefty bats that should scare anyone. It’s a lot easier to build an offense with pitcher under $8,000.
