3. Arizona Coyotes vs. Winnipeg Jets: Feb. 24, 2019

Coyotes fans know about this one. Shane Doan will forever be remembered by the Arizona Coyotes as the team will hang his jersey from the rafters of Gila River Arena. Doan’s jersey will be the first to hang at Gila River; a huge reminder to the current team that Doan’s legacy will be tied to the franchise for the rest of the time.

It’s also fitting that the Coyotes chose a contest against the Winnipeg Jets to do the ceremony. For starters and obvious reasons, Doan was selected by the Jets before they turned into the Coyotes. On the other hand, it’s a critical contest to kick off a seven-game homestand for the Yotes.

Arizona heads to Western Canada to take on the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks all in a stretch of five days. They get a little pause before the Winnipeg game where full attention will have to be given.

The home stretch lasts right into March; the month of fighting for the playoffs or fighting for better positioning in the NHL Draft. The Coyotes will hopefully be doing the former, and they’ll have the energy of representing Doan to kick it off properly.
